“Time For Cheese” in Lidzbark Warmiński

3rd Polish Festival of Farmhouse and Traditional Cheeses on 7-9th June

It’s already the third edition of Polish Festival of Farmhouse and Traditional Cheeses “Time For Cheese” in Lidzbark Warmiński, Poland. This year the producers and farmhouse cheese lovers meet on 7-9th June. Every year the number of exhibitors and cheese offer grows. Two previous editions ended with great success collecting many flattering opinions from both exhibitors and visiting guests. This year will definitely not disappoint you with interesting, unique cheeses, additional attractions, pleasant atmosphere and good music.

It is the only Polish event, which serves most of all restoration and development of cheesemaking tradition and regaining the “lost flavours”. It is promoted as the place of meetings, mutual education of small traditional producers and cheese enthusiasts and as the platform of integration to the whole environment of traditional cheese admirers.

The festival is to build a positive image of small cheesemaking, and help appreciate the effort of small producers. ‘Time For Cheese” is not a commercial event for its organizers and serves to encourage the local community through social realization of the event.

The organizers, that is: City Government of Lidzbark Warmiński, Hotel Krasicki and AGROVIS company decided to continue the tried and true festival formula. ‘Time for Cheese’ will be held in the interiors of Hotel Krasicki and in of Lidzbark’s XIVth Century Bishops’ Castle. On Friday morning the jury of the festival will be assessing the cheeses sent to the cheese contest, and in the afternoon the producers and other people connected with the cheese craft will meet for the seminar dedicated to the issues of farmhouse cheesemaking. We will be hosting the FACE representatives (Farmhouse and Artisan Cheesemakers European Network), which represents the interests of small cheese producers and provides support for our festival. There will also be representatives of farmhouse cheese makers from Lithuania and Switzerland and farmhouse products marketing specialists. The seminars will end with the tasting laboratories: “Cheeses of Europe”, which will include cheeses from Ireland, England, France, Switzerland and Poland.

During the first edition of the Festival the Grand Prix went to ‘ Farmhouse Gouda with fenugreek’ by Lucyna and Sylwester Wańczyk and the year after it was a maturing goat cheese ‘Capra’ by Małgorzata Klause-Wojas.

Two following days of the festival will be dedicated to the guests, which will be able to try and purchase the best this-year cheeses produced from goat, ewe and cow milk, maturing in the traditional manner. The cheeses will be accompanied by other specialties, like Polish wines and beverages, chutneys etc. Here only will You be able to recollect the forgotten flavours of Your childhood and taste the specialties that You don’t come across in the regular chain stores. There will also be time to exchange views with the producers and cheese enthusiasts. This year’s attraction will be the opportunity to purchase the excellent, local French cheeses that are not seen in the Polish retail.

To all cheese lovers, which would like to enrich their cheese knowledge we offer the range of ‘taste workshops’, where the characteristic features of various cheeses will be discussed. Our guests will be able to taste the discussed cheeses and learn about the ways those cheeses can be used in the kitchen. The children will have some fun in the playground and during different quizzes and competitions.

We will be happy to welcome You! We warmly invite You on 7-9th June to Lidzbark Warmiński – the cheese capital of Poland!
